In our 20th year, having baked as Midfields Granola since 2002, I have been looking through old cuttings from magazines and newspapers and discovered this quote from a journalist interviewing me in my own kitchen in Moretonhampstead. Furthermore, I see my philosophy remains the same… to “keep it simple” and use only the best quality ingredients – of course!
In twenty years our basic methods have stayed the same. The Original Granola I first made for our Bed and Breakfast guests now wins the accolade as our most popular seller, having been second in line to Wheat Free Granola. Of course, there have been changes in people’s dietary needs over the years, starting with the Wheat Free, perfect for the people preferring not to eat wheat and now a big seller for us. We’ve also developed Gluten Free Granola, eaten by me and my husband every morning for Breakfast, just because it’s so delicious!
A recent creation Midfields Apple and Apricot Gluten Free Cookies are proving a popular addition to others in our range; Cranberry and Almond and Chocolate and Ginger Cookies (not GF). A definite growth area within our Cottage Industry.
Midfields Granola is proud to remain a grass roots Cottage industry, still located on site in Moretonhampstead, I work alongside three hardworking ladies baking and my husband Brian designing our branded labels and running accounts. Meanwhile I enjoy multi-tasking, – spending my spare time on marketing and sales, plus developing new recipes, never a dull moment!
The wild and beautiful Dartmoor is such a wonderful place to work, surrounded by moorland there is always some wildlife to entertain us including many species of birds. We often have Buzzards gracefully gliding above us as we eat our lunch outside while the small birds eat the day’s sweepings of Granola. Of course, there are herds of the pure Dartmoor Ponies grazing on the open Moorland amongst the ancient Bronze age villages and Granit Tors.
We feel fortunate to work in this special peaceful part of England and after 20 years hope we can go on baking our hand baked Granolas and Cookies for everyone to enjoy.
Celebration Charity Events in 2022
This being our twentieth year we thought it a good way to celebrate, say a big “thank you” to all our loyal customers and give a little something back, would be to hold a ‘Big Breakfast and a Cream Tea afternoon’ and hopefully raise some much needed funds for The Children’s Hospice South West.
